About the Department
The Department of Social Work was established in 2011 with the decision of the Higher Education Council No. 6394-40970 dated 23.09.2011 within Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Tokat College of Health Sciences. On 8 April 2016, Tokat College of Health Sciences was closed with the Decree of the Council of Ministers numbered 2016/8562 and transformed into ‘Faculty of Health Sciences’ and the Department of Social Work continues its activities within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The education and training period of the department is 4 years, the language of education is Turkish and there is an optional preparatory class. As of the 2025–2026 academic year, the department employs five faculty members (one Professor, one Associate Professor, and three Assistant Professors) and one research staff member (a Research Assistant, Ph.D.). As of the Fall Semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Master's program has commenced student admissions.
Department Overview
Social work is an academic discipline that aims to increase the well-being of individuals, families, groups and the whole society on the basis of social justice and human rights, to solve problems in human relations, to improve and develop social health and to ensure social transition. In this context, the aim of the Department of Social Work is to train well-equipped social work professionals who both support social justice and contribute to human health for human and social development. In addition, the Department of Social Work aims to contribute to the discipline with its theoretical and practical studies.
Fields of Work
Graduates of the Department of Social Work are given the title of ‘social work specialist’. In the public sector, there is the possibility of employment as a ‘social worker’ according to the KPSS exam result. Graduates of the Department of Social Work have the opportunity to work in the following areas, especially in the units affiliated to the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
